BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU KEEP LETTING IN
“And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper.”
Romans 1:28 NASB
Be careful of the sin you keep allowing to creep into your life. What you repeatedly excuse can begin to shape how you think, what you desire, and what you are willing to accept.
In Romans 1, Paul describes people who suppress the truth, exchange God’s truth for a lie, and refuse to acknowledge Him. This passage describes persistent rejection of God. His response is sobering: He gives them over to the corruption they have chosen. Being allowed to continue in sin is not evidence of His approval.
We need to hear that warning personally. The verses that follow include greed, envy, deceit, gossip, arrogance, and a lack of mercy. Before we use this passage to examine everyone else, we need to let it expose what we have been excusing in ourselves.
Sin does not become harmless because it is familiar. A grudge still needs to be surrendered. Dishonesty still needs to be confessed. Private compromise still matters before God. When we start arranging our lives to protect what God calls us to repent of, we are resisting His authority.
The answer is not to hide from God or convince yourself that you are beyond His mercy. Bring your sin into the light. Confess it honestly and turn from it. Jesus Christ saves sinners, and His grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and live in obedience to Him (Titus 2:11–14).
— TODAY’S CHALLENGE —
Identify sin you have been minimizing or making room for. Confess it specifically to God. Take a concrete step of obedience today: remove the access, tell the truth, seek forgiveness, or ask a mature believer to help hold you accountable. Depend on the Holy Spirit as you follow through.
— INVITATION —
Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Turn from your sin and place your faith in Him. Forgiveness is found in Christ. Come to Him in repentance and faith, and begin following Him today.
