Enjoying Gods Presence vs Being Changed By His Presence

Ricky  /  October 9, 2026

๐Ÿ”ฅ THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ENJOYING GODโ€™S PRESENCE AND BEING CHANGED BY GODโ€™S PRESENCE

Key Scriptures: Exodus 33:14โ€“16; Romans 12:1โ€“2; 2 Corinthians 3:18

Central Truth: You can experience the atmosphere of God’s presence and still resist the transformation His presence demands. God’s desire is not merely that you feel His nearness, but that you become more like Jesus.

๐ŸŒฟ Introduction: His Presence Is More Than a Feeling

Beloved, there is a holy difference between being moved by the presence of God and being transformed by the presence of God.

You can cry during worship and still refuse to forgive. You can tremble under a powerful message and still protect the very habit God is calling you to surrender. You can feel the fire of His presence on Sunday and return to the same patterns on Monday.

Tears are not always transformation. Emotion is not always surrender. And an encounter is not complete simply because it was powerful.

The evidence of a genuine encounter is not merely what happened around you, but what God begins to change within you.

Moses did not merely desire an experience. He desired God’s presence so deeply that he declared in Exodus 33:15:

> โ€œIf thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.โ€

Moses understood that the greatest blessing was not simply reaching the Promised Land. It was having God with him on the journey.

But here is the deeper question: When God comes near, are we willing to let Him change us?

1. ๐Ÿ”ฅ YOU CAN FEEL HIS PRESENCE WITHOUT SURRENDERING YOUR HEART

๐Ÿ“– Matthew 15:8 โ€” โ€œThis people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.โ€

One of the greatest dangers in spiritual life is learning how to enjoy the things of God without allowing God to govern every area of our lives.

We can love the music but resist the message. We can celebrate the promises but reject the corrections. We can desire God’s blessings while refusing His instructions.

The presence of God is not a spiritual decoration for our lives. It calls us into relationship, obedience, and holiness.

When the Holy Spirit convicts you about your pride, will you humble yourself? When He exposes bitterness, will you forgive? When He tells you to leave a sinful practice, will you obey?

The real question is not, โ€œDid I feel God?โ€ but โ€œDid I yield to God?โ€

God does not expose our hearts to destroy us. He reveals what needs healing so that we can walk in greater freedom.

๐ŸŒฟ Prayer: โ€œHoly Spirit, do not let me become satisfied with spiritual feelings while my heart remains unchanged. Teach me to surrender completely.โ€

ย 2. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ HIS PRESENCE REVEALS WHAT MUST CHANGE

๐Ÿ“– Isaiah 6:5 โ€” โ€œWoe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips.โ€

When Isaiah encountered the holiness of God, he did not leave with an inflated opinion of himself. He became deeply aware of his need for cleansing.

The closer Isaiah came to the revelation of God’s holiness, the more clearly he recognized what needed to change in his own life.

This is one mark of a genuine encounter: God’s holiness reveals our condition, and His mercy provides the way forward.

Sometimes we pray for God to change our circumstances when He is also working to change our character.

We ask for greater influence, but God teaches us humility. We ask for greater authority, but God teaches us submission. We ask for open doors, but God develops integrity within us.

Do not despise the moment when God lovingly confronts your heart.

The conviction of the Holy Spirit is not the same as condemnation. Condemnation drives you into hopelessness; godly conviction calls you toward repentance and restoration.

Isaiah was cleansed and commissioned. His encounter led to transformation and service.

๐Ÿ”ฅ If His presence reveals something in you that must change, do not run away from the light. Surrender to the One who can make you new.

3. ๐ŸŒฑ HIS PRESENCE TRANSFORMS YOU FROM THE INSIDE OUT

๐Ÿ“– 2 Corinthians 3:18 โ€” โ€œWe allโ€ฆ are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.โ€

The purpose of God’s presence is not merely to give you a memorable spiritual experience. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, God shapes your character to reflect Jesus Christ.

Transformation is often a process.

The impatient person learns patience. The proud person learns humility. The bitter person learns forgiveness. The fearful person learns to trust God. The undisciplined person learns obedience.

You may not change every weakness in a single moment, but you must remain surrendered to the One who is changing you.

Do not measure spiritual growth only by how loudly you worship, how long you pray, or how much Scripture you can quote. Look also at how you treat people, how you respond to correction, what you do when nobody is watching, and whether your private life agrees with your public confession.

The presence you enjoy in prayer should produce the character you demonstrate in daily life.

If you encounter the God of love, your heart should increasingly learn to love. If you encounter the God of truth, your life should increasingly reject deception. If you encounter the Holy One, your desire for holiness should deepen.

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Remember: We are not transformed by human effort alone. We cooperate with the Holy Spirit as He renews our minds, corrects our desires, and teaches us to walk in obedience.

4. โšก STOP CHASING ENCOUNTERS AND START RESPONDING TO GOD

๐Ÿ“– James 1:22 โ€” โ€œBut be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.โ€

There comes a time when you must stop asking only for another powerful meeting and begin obeying what God has already shown you.

If He has told you to forgive, forgive.
If He has convicted you about dishonesty, make it right.
If He has called you to abandon a secret sin, stop making excuses.

If He has instructed you to reconcile where reconciliation is safe and appropriate, take the first faithful step.

If He has called you to serve, stop waiting for recognition.

You do not prove the depth of your encounter by talking about how powerful it was. You demonstrate its fruit through the life you live afterward.

Consider Peter. He wept bitterly after denying Jesus, but his story did not end with failure. The risen Christ restored him and entrusted him with responsibility (John 21:15โ€“17).

Peter’s restoration reminds us that God’s presence does not merely expose our failures; His grace can restore us and prepare us to serve Him faithfully.

Beloved, do not build a life around collecting spiritual experiences while neglecting spiritual obedience.

Seek His presence, love His Word, welcome His correction, and follow His leading.

The goal is not simply to visit the atmosphere of God’s presence. It is to walk with Him until His character becomes increasingly visible in you.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Lord, Change Me!

๐Ÿ“– Psalm 139:23โ€“24

> โ€œSearch me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.โ€

Today, the invitation is deeper than asking God to make you feel something.

It is an invitation to let Him change something.

Perhaps you have worshipped while holding on to unforgiveness. Perhaps you have preached about holiness while privately compromising. Perhaps you have prayed for power while resisting the discipline that spiritual maturity requires.

Today, do not hide behind your ministry, your reputation, your gifts, or your past encounters.

Come honestly before God.

Pray:

โ€œLord Jesus, I do not want to enjoy Your presence and remain unchanged. Search my heart. Reveal every attitude, habit, and desire that does not please You. Forgive me for the times I have preferred spiritual feelings over obedience. Cleanse me, renew my mind, and teach me to walk in holiness. Holy Spirit, transform my character so that my life reflects Jesus. I surrender not only my worship, but also my will. Let the change You begin in me become visible in the way I live. In Jesusโ€™ name, Amen.โ€

๐ŸŒฟ One decision today: Stop protecting the very thing God is asking you to surrender.

Let your next encounter with God become your next step of obedience.

๐Ÿ’Ž Final Declaration

I will not settle for emotion without transformation.

I will not seek the gifts of God while neglecting the character of Christ.

I will welcome the Holy Spirit’s conviction, receive His grace, obey His Word, and pursue a life that honors Jesus.

I do not merely want to feel His presence. I want my heart, my character, and my conduct to be changed by His presence.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Engaging Question

If someone observed your life after your most powerful encounter with God, what evidence would they see that you had truly been changed?

Let this question lead you into honest prayer and renewed surrender.
