James writes something that should make every believer stop and think.

“You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe… and shudder!” (James 2:19)

That is a confronting verse.

The demons don’t doubt that God exists. They know who He is. They know His authority. Yet they remain in rebellion.

James isn’t saying belief is unimportant. He’s saying that merely agreeing with the truth is not the same as biblical faith. Real faith moves. It obeys. It changes the way we live.

Earlier he writes, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding yourselves.” (James 1:22)

That should make us ask an honest question. What does my faith actually produce?

Does it lead me to forgive when it’s hard?

To love my neighbour?

To turn away from sin?

To keep the commandments of God, not to earn salvation, but because I belong to Him?

God Himself asked, “Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do what I say?” (Luke 6:46). And again, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)

James isn’t teaching salvation by works. Abraham was counted righteous because of faith. Yet that same Abraham also “obeyed My voice and kept My commandments, My statutes, and My laws” (Genesis 26:5). His obedience didn’t compete with his faith. It proved his faith was real.

The same is true for us.

A living faith bears fruit. It doesn’t obey perfectly, but it does obey. Not to become God’s children, but because we already are.

Scripture never measures fruit by the size of a ministry, the number of followers we have, or how many programs we run. God looks for something deeper.

Yeshua said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15). He also said, “You will know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16). The fruit He is looking for is a life transformed by faith: a life marked by love, obedience, holiness, repentance, and perseverance.

Faith that saves by God’s grace is faith that bears this kind of fruit.

May our faith be more than words. More than agreement. May it be the kind of faith that trusts Yehovah enough to walk in His ways, even when those ways are unpopular or costly‼️
