“God Gave Them Over…”
Romans 1:24, 26, 28 (KJV)

Romans 1 is one of the most sobering chapters in Scripture. Three times the Bible says, “God gave them over.” This does not mean that God delighted in their destruction. It means that after continual rebellion, rejection of His truth, and refusal to repent, God allowed them to follow the sinful path they had chosen.

Romans 1:24 (KJV):
“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:”

Romans 1:26 (KJV):
“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections…”

Romans 1:28 (KJV):
“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind…”

Notice the order. People first rejected God. They suppressed His truth, worshipped the creature more than the Creator, and refused to glorify Him. Only then did God give them over to the consequences of their own sinful desires. God’s judgment is often seen not only in punishment but also in allowing sinners to reap what they insist on pursuing.

This is a warning to every generation. A hardened heart does not happen overnight. Every time a person ignores God’s conviction, refuses His Word, and rejects the gospel of Jesus Christ, the heart becomes more calloused. Yet God’s mercy is still extended today to all who will repent and believe.

The good news is that no one is beyond God’s grace while they still have breath. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. His blood cleanses from all sin, and His resurrection offers new life to everyone who turns to Him in faith.

The question is not whether God is willing to forgive. The question is whether we are willing to repent.

2 Peter 3:9 (KJV):
“The Lord is… not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Today is the day to seek the Lord. Do not harden your heart. Turn from sin, trust in Jesus Christ alone, and receive His mercy before it is too late.
