Yes, you heard right. God gets angry- but maybe not at what you think. Anger is an emotion that comes from the heart. But understand, God has a good, good heart.
Let’s discuss anger and God.
#1: Anger can be holy.
It means something matters. It means Someone cares. It means He has a heart.
#2: God doesn’t explode.
He doesn’t lose control and explode. He’s not unpredictable. His Word says He is: “slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.” (Ps. 103:8)
#3: There are moments.
There are moments when God gets angry. And it tells us what matters most to Him.
#4: When…….
When the powerful exploit the vulnerable. (Ex. 22:22,23)
When religion becomes a weapon. (Mk. 12:38-40)
When hearts become hard toward others’ pain. ( Zech. 7:9,10)
The things that hurt and crush, and take advantage of each other.
#5: The good news.
Here’s what DOESN’T make God angry…
Your doubts.
Your failures.
Your coming up short.
Your mess-ups.
Your fear.
Your questions.
Your anxiety.
Your worry.
Peter denies Him in a moment of fear, but their next conversation is on love. Thomas doubts Him, but He still shows up. The disciples fell asleep in His GREATEST HOUR of need, but He told them He understands.
Elijah gives up, but God makes him a cake. Jonah ran away, and God chased him. Philip didn’t get it, so Jesus tried again. The fishermen accuse Him, and He calms their storm. The woman was caught in the very act, and Jesus knelt in the dirt with her.
Yes, God gets angry. And thank heaven He does. Because it means He sees, He cares, He intervenes. But God ISN’T MAD AT YOUR MISTAKES! He’s touched by your faith. And when He burns with anger, it’s always in defense of LOVE!
Yes, His anger comes from the heart, but God has a good, good heart!
