Paul, in his writing in Philipians said; “…this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind…” (Phil.3:13)
We cannot grab on to our future if we don’t let go of our past!
WAIT!!!
Let me say this right here. I DIDN’T say the past is something that we can completely erase from our minds. And, I DIDN’T say the past doesn’t matter. But, rather than living there ( like a prison), we can learn from it and move forward.
Not looking back but looking forward. Paul went on to say in that same verse; “…and reaching FORTH to those things which are BEFORE,”) Notice he said ” I’m reaching forth, not behind, but forth. That’s ahead. He’s leaving a place and He’s reaching for a new place.
Then, he continues on and says “…the things that are BEFORE.” Not what’s behind but what’s ahead. Let’s be real. Letting go of the past can be tough. No one is denying that. It can be challenging for some people. But the truth is, it’s still possible. The Holy Spirit would not have inspired Paul to write these words if it weren’t possible.
With the help of the Holy Spirit, I believe we can learn from our past, no matter how bad, how difficult, or how horrible it may have been.I really do. But I also believe, that with His help, while learning, we can still move forward and let go of certain things that have been holding us in a place God wants us to leave behind.
Remember, as long as you live in the past, you’ll never have much of a future.
Don’t get hung up on a chapter of your life, YOU’RE STILL WRITING THE REST OF YOUR STORY!!!
