Making Use of Your Prayer Language

Ricky  /  September 4, 2026

🔥 WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE USE OF THE GIFT OF TONGUES

“A spiritual language for a deeper walk with God”

> “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God.”
— 1 Corinthians 14:2

There is a dimension of prayer that God never intended you to remain ignorant of.

The gift of tongues is not a badge of spirituality. It is not a performance for people. It is not something to use to impress a congregation.

It is a gift—and gifts are given to be used.

Many believers have received the Holy Spirit, but have not learned to steward the spiritual language God has made available to them.

And the question is not merely, “Do I have the gift?”

The deeper question is:

❓ “What am I doing with what God has already given me?”

🔥 1. TONGUES HELPS YOU BUILD YOURSELF SPIRITUALLY

> “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”
— Jude 20

There are seasons when your mind is tired, your emotions are confused, and you don’t know exactly what to pray.

But your inability to find the words does not mean your prayer life must stop.

Prayer in the Spirit allows you to continue engaging God beyond the limitations of your natural vocabulary.

You may not understand everything you are praying, but God does.

And as you consistently pray in the Spirit, your inner man is being strengthened.

🌿 Your faith is being exercised.
🔥 Your spiritual sensitivity is being cultivated.
🕊️ Your heart is being drawn toward God.

Don’t only pray when you feel inspired.

Build yourself in the Spirit.

🔥 2. TONGUES TEACHES YOU TO DEPEND ON THE HOLY SPIRIT

> “For we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us…”
— Romans 8:26

One of the greatest problems of the believer is self-dependence.

We want to understand everything before we obey.
We want to know the entire plan before we move.
We want God to explain everything before we pray.

But spiritual maturity sometimes sounds like:

“Lord, I don’t know what to pray. Holy Spirit, help me.”

Tongues confronts the pride of self-sufficiency.

It reminds you:

> “I don’t have to know everything to surrender completely.”

🕊️ 3. TONGUES CAN BECOME A PLACE OF SPIRITUAL INTIMACY

> “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God.”
— 1 Corinthians 14:2

There is a difference between talking about God and talking with God.

You can know sermons and still lack intimacy.
You can quote Scriptures and still have a prayerless heart.
You can attend meetings and still be spiritually dry.

But when you shut the door, silence the distractions, and begin to fellowship with God in prayer, something deeper begins to happen.

🔥 Prayer becomes communion.
🔥 Communion produces sensitivity.
🔥 Sensitivity produces obedience.

The goal is not simply to speak in tongues.

The goal is to become increasingly yielded to the Holy Spirit.

⚔️ 4. TONGUES HELPS YOU MAINTAIN SPIRITUAL ALERTNESS

> “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…”
— Ephesians 6:18

We are living in a generation filled with noise.

Notifications.
Entertainment.
Arguments.
Opinions.
Distractions.
Endless information.

And one of the greatest dangers of this age is that a believer can become constantly informed but spiritually insensitive.

Prayer brings you back to the secret place.

When you pray in the Spirit, don’t treat it as a religious routine.

Enter deliberately.

“Holy Spirit, make me sensitive to Jesus.”

“Search my heart.”

“Align my desires.”

“Teach me to recognize Your leading.”

Because the end-time Church will not merely need people who can make noise.

🔥 SHE WILL NEED PEOPLE WHO CAN HEAR GOD.

—-

💧 5. TONGUES IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR THE WORD

This must be understood.

The Holy Spirit does not lead you away from Scripture.

> “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
— Psalm 119:105

We need the Word and the Spirit.
We need prayer and obedience.
We need spiritual gifts and spiritual character.
We need power and love.

Paul himself taught that spiritual gifts must operate with order, understanding, and love.

> “Let all things be done decently and in order.”
— 1 Corinthians 14:40

Therefore, tongues should never become a competition.

Never use it to make yourself look superior.
Never use it to manipulate people.
Never use it to replace biblical understanding.

The gift is powerful—but the Giver is greater.

🔥 6. DON’T BURY WHAT GOD GAVE YOU

Jesus said:

> “Occupy till I come.”
— Luke 19:13

A gift that is never exercised is a gift being neglected.

Perhaps God has already placed something in your hands that you have stopped using.

Perhaps you prayed in the Spirit once with passion, but now your prayer life has become mechanical.

Perhaps you once loved the secret place, but entertainment slowly replaced communion.

Perhaps you are surrounded by Christian activity but starving spiritually.

⚠️ Don’t confuse activity with intimacy.

A microphone cannot replace prayer.
A platform cannot replace the secret place.
A ministry title cannot replace consecration.

And spiritual gifts cannot replace obedience.

—-

🔥 THE GREATER ISSUE IS SURRENDER‼️

The gift of tongues is not ultimately about showing that you are spiritual.

It is about learning to say:

> “Holy Spirit, I yield myself to You.”

And that surrender must affect your entire life.

Your tongue.
Your thoughts.
Your relationships.
Your money.
Your time.
Your private life.
Your ambitions.
Your ministry.
Your plans.

🔥 GOD DOES NOT WANT ONLY YOUR PRAYER LANGUAGE.

HE WANTS YOUR WHOLE LIFE.

—-

🕊️ A PROPHETIC CALL TO THE CHURCH

I believe this is a season in which God is calling His people back to depth.

Not merely louder meetings.
Not merely emotional moments.
Not merely impressive gatherings.

But consecrated believers who know how to seek God when nobody is watching.

The secret place must become stronger than the public platform.

Prayer must become deeper than performance.

And intimacy with Jesus must become more valuable than recognition from people.

🔥 There is a generation that must recover the altar.

A generation that will pray when nobody applauds.
A generation that will obey when nobody celebrates.
A generation that will seek God before seeking influence.
A generation that will carry spiritual fire without turning the fire into a performance.

—-

🙏 PRAYER OF CONSECRATION

Holy Spirit, I surrender.

Teach me to pray.
Teach me to listen.
Teach me to discern.
Teach me to walk in obedience.

Forgive me for every season when I neglected the secret place.

Revive my prayer altar.

Stir again the gift You have placed within me.

Let spiritual gifts never become instruments of pride, but channels of love, edification, and service.

Make me sensitive to Your voice.
Make me faithful in private.
Make me pure in motive.
Make me strong in the Spirit.
And above everything else—
MAKE ME MORE LIKE JESUS.

In Jesus Christ’s mighty name.

Amen. 🔥🕊️

❓ ENGAGING QUESTION

If God has already placed a spiritual gift within you, what would change in your prayer life if you stopped treating it as something occasional and began stewarding it with humility, discipline, and genuine hunger for God?

🔥 Don’t bury the gift.
🕊️ Don’t idolize the gift.
❤️ Don’t perform the gift.
Steward the gift—and pursue the Giver.
