You might be breaking a commandment right now.
Not murder.
Not adultery.
One of the top 10.
And you have NO IDEA you’re doing it!
Exodus 20:7: “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain .”
You think this is about cursing (or cussing).
Maybe something like, “Oh my God,” carelessly. But the Hebrew reveals something
you’d never expect.
This ISN’T about words at all! Taking God’s name in vain isn’t technically about
your mouth.
So in Hebrew, “Nasa”= to carry, to bear.
”Shav”= empty, worthless, for nothing.
The commandment literally says:
” Don’t carry My name for NOTHING!”
Don’t wear the label ” Christian ” while living empty of His character. Taking God’s
name in vain ISN’T about your mouth so much as it’s about YOUR LIFE!
If you call yourself a Christian, a Christ-bearer, but your life doesn’t reflect Him?
You’re taking His name in vain!
Every time you claim Jesus publicly but deny Him privately, you break this
commandment!
Not with your mouth.
WITH YOUR LIFE!
Posting worship lyrics while gossiping in DM’s? Wearing a cross while harboring
unforgiveness? Calling yourself a Christian while living in secret sin?
That’s NOT just hypocrisy.
That’s taking His name IN VAIN!
Matthew 7:21-23:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom… I will tell
them, ‘I NEVER KNEW YOU.’”
They carried His name.
They used His title.
But they didn’t REPRESENT His HEART!
That’s the commandment broken at its core.
So here it is:
Are you worthy of the name you’re carrying? If someone followed you for a week,
No Sunday filter, would they see Jesus? You’re not breaking this commandment when
you curse (cuss, not that this is good either).
You’re breaking it when you carry His name but live like He’s not real.
STOP representing Him IN WORD ONLY!
START representing Him in life!
If you carry His name but NOT His character, the commandment is already
broken.
STOP wearing the label.
START BEARING THE LIKENESS!!!
