One of the greatest tactics the enemy uses against people 0f great potential and promise is to imprison them in a dungeon of bitterness and unforgiveness. Those who are dominated and controlled by bitterness never truly achieve their dreams or fulfill God’s call on their lives because they are caught in a nightmare of the past.
When you hold on to bitterness, it is very costly. Bitterness is a horrible taskmaster. It requires you to spend your time, energy, and mental power maintaining grudges and nursing past wounds rather than pressing forward into your future. Bitterness is the ultimate killer of dreams.
When you are dominated and controlled by bitterness, you will blame others for where you are in your lack of productivity and the frustration of your dream. People who hold on to unforgiveness are so trapped by their “then” that they are missing out on their “now.” The reality is, all the potential for yesterday is gone, and your greatest potential is in your now. Unforgiveness and bitterness rob you of your now.
When you don’t forgive the people who have wronged you, you actually empower them to HURT YOU AGAIN. The greatest relief is found in forgiveness. You might be thinking, “The person who wronged me doesn’t deserve forgiveness.” That may be true, but just remember, those who DESERVE FORGIVENESS THE LEAST NEED IT THE MOST!
You are never truly able to forgive until you see bitterness as bondage. Until you see unforgiveness as a prison, you are destined to continue serving time. When you grant forgiveness to someone, they may not even care. Quite honestly, your forgiveness may not unshackle them; it may not release them or transform their lives. Simply stated, they may not want it or deserve it. Your forgiveness may not set them free, BUT YOUR FORGIVENESS WILL SET YOU FREE!
If you truly want to be free, FORGIVE AND LIVE!
