WHEN HUMAN POWER LOOKS BIG

Some problems don’t frighten us because of their size.
They frighten us because of who is behind them.
A powerful person.
A powerful institution.
A government.
A wealthy opponent.
A difficult employer.
Someone with influence.
Someone who seems capable of determining your future.
Human power can be intimidating.
But listen to Isaiah:

“Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket…”
— Isaiah 40:15

A drop.
Think about that.
Nations look enormous to us.
They have armies.
Economies.
Governments.
Borders.
Millions of people.
Political power.
Military power.
Economic influence.
Yet Scripture uses the image of a drop of water in a bucket to communicate how insignificant human power is compared with God’s supreme greatness.

This does not mean people have no value.
Human beings are made in God’s image and deeply loved by Him.
The point is something else:
No human power is comparable to God’s sovereignty.

So perhaps someone has been making you afraid.
Perhaps someone’s influence seems capable of destroying your future.
Perhaps an institution has become so intimidating that you have forgotten who your God is.
Remember:
People have authority.
God has ultimate sovereignty.
People have resources.
God is the source of all resources.
People have influence.
God rules over every circumstance.
People have limits.
God does not.
This does not mean we become foolish, rebellious, or careless.
It means we refuse to let human power become bigger in our minds than God.
Don’t deny the power of the opposition.
Put it in perspective.
There is a God above every throne.
Above every institution.
Above every authority.
Above every human plan.
And He is the God you pray to.

Creation itself is going to teach us something about the authority of God’s Word.🔥
